Our base is Central Otago and most of our work is in Queenstown and Wānaka, building for architects and for clients who will not accept a compromise. We take a small number of projects away from here each year — elsewhere in New Zealand, and further — on the same terms.
We assess the project before committing. Travel changes the economics of a job, so it has to be the right project — usually a full architectural fit-out rather than a single room.
Our price is for the work. Getting us there and keeping us there — flights, vehicles, accommodation — is yours to hold, at cost, and we add nothing to it. We do not make money on your logistics. It is also the cheaper arrangement for you: if we carried those costs we would have to price them against an overrun that may never happen, and you would pay that margin whether the job ran long or not.
On accommodation we do ask for a standard: a comfortable house, not the cheapest listing that sleeps the number. A proper bed each, a quiet room, a kitchen and a washing machine. Setting out tile is exacting work done on your knees, and the difference between a rested installer and a tired one does not show on day three. It shows in the last week, and the last week is the one you live with.
Everything is agreed in writing before anyone books anything, so there is no conversation about money once the job has started. We then work in continuous blocks rather than returning every few weeks, which is what keeps the programme predictable and the travel paid for once.
Family comes with us
On a job long enough to keep the team away from home, their families travel with them. We are not willing to send someone away from their children for weeks at a time, and a crew that is not homesick does better work. It is counted with the rest of the travel and agreed before anyone gets on a plane — never raised halfway through.

We do the whole build-up, not the visible part of it: screed, waterproofing, self-levelling, underfloor heating, tile, epoxy grout, sealant and silicone. On a project that travels, that matters more than anywhere — coordinating four trades at distance is how programmes slip and how responsibility gets lost.
One team arrives, and the wet areas are finished when it leaves.
